4 Senses Half-Day Private Tour: A Journey in Naxian Tradition

Experience Naxos through all your senses on a private half-day tour combining ancient temples, traditional villages, citron liqueur, local honey, olive oil tasting, herbs and Byzantine heritage.

Private Tour Naxos Highlights Duration: 4.5 hours

Discover the traditions, flavors and history of Naxos through a private half-day tour designed as a journey for the senses.

During this experience, you will be guided along the paths of Greek tradition and Naxian lifestyle. You will taste local products such as citron liqueur, honey, olive oil and olive-based products, visit important archaeological and religious monuments, explore traditional villages and enjoy the scents of local herbs and the authentic atmosphere of the island.

Your first stop is the Temple of Dionysus at the Yria Sanctuary. The ruins that survive today show that the temple was built around the 6th century BC, following the Ionian architectural style. In the 1st century BC, the Romans reconstructed it, while during the 5th century AD, after the decline of the ancient Greek religion, the temple was converted into a Christian church. Next to the monument, there is a small exhibition room with findings from the site.

The tour continues to the Temple of Demeter, an impressive ancient temple dating back to around 530 BC. Apart from the beautifully restored monument, you will also have the chance to visit the archaeological museum located in the same area, where findings from the site are displayed.

Afterwards, you will enjoy a 35-minute break in Chalki village. There, you can visit the traditional citron distillery, taste citron liqueur, try local honey or other local products, and enjoy a relaxed coffee break in one of the most charming villages of inland Naxos.

The next stop is Kaloxylos village, where you will visit Ergostasio Naxos for a delicious olive oil and olive products tasting. For visitors who are interested, there is also the option to visit the Kaloxylos Folklore Museum. The museum offers a beautiful glimpse into the past, with rare collections of farming tools, household items, stamps, coins and school memorabilia. Inside this elegant neoclassical building, visitors can also discover the only traditional rope-making workshop still existing in the Cyclades, as well as the old village grocery emporium dating back to 1935.

Last but not least, you will visit Panagia Drosiani, one of the oldest and most important Byzantine churches in the Balkans, known for its unique frescoes and spiritual atmosphere.

Pickup and drop-off service is included from Naxos Town, St. George, Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna and Plaka.
